Post Qualified Experience

How much work experience is required to be considered appropriate experience and qualified to apply to the CLC to be a sole practitioner or becoming the HoLP in a conveyancing or probate firm. 

The CLC expects that individuals seeking to become regulated as a sole practitioner of a CLC Recognised Body or as the Head of Legal Practice (HoLP) of a CLC Alternative Business Structure (ABS) can evidence appropriate levels of occupational and professional experience to manage regulatory and consumer protection obligations. Professional and occupation experience should at a minimum:

  1. four years’ or more post qualifying experience of holding substantive middle management, but ideally, senior management positions;
  2. in a business regulated by an approved regulator in England and Wales, to provide conveyancing and or probate services to the public;
  3. with professional accountability in areas such as, client care, compliance, complaints handling, and policy and procedure implementation; and
  4. direct supervisory experience for overseeing the legal work of others
