Thank you again to those who took part in our consultation on the proposed new Ongoing Competence Code in March and April this year. You can read about the changes we have made to the Code based on your feedback in this consultation report. Perhaps the biggest change has been to simplify the Code, making the mandatory requirements both easier to understand and easier to comply with.
We have today submitted our application to the Legal Services Board (LSB) seeking approval for the proposed new Code by the end of May. The application will be available to view on the LSB website in due course, and we will make a link available in the next edition of our newsletter. If you have not signed up to the newsletter, you can do so at this link: Sign up to the CLC Newsletter.
Subject to receiving approval from the LSB, the new Ongoing Competence Code will come into effect in November 2025 with CLC lawyers and practices only being required to report on compliance with the new Code from November 2026.
We will provide further updates in our newsletter in the coming months. In the interim, CLC lawyers should continue to comply with the current CPD Code.
