Fletcher Longstaff is a relatively new business and has been operating in its current form since 2021. As licensed conveyancers, we are focused on providing the highest possible service to our clients and are building a good reputation in Lincolnshire where we are based as well as attracting clients from across the country.
The CLC qualification is important for us because we only do conveyancing work and want our staff to have the specific skills they need for the job. With other qualifications, you can’t be sure an employee will have that specialist knowledge.
I qualified with CLC in 2009 and the firm is currently funding two of our conveyancers through their studies. Qualified staff are hard to find, particularly in a provincial city like Lincoln so it’s an important investment, benefiting our staff and the business, making us stronger and ensuring we have the skilled professionals we need to grow.
Over and above the skills they bring, there are other key benefits to our business of having qualified conveyancers on staff. Lender panels require a certain number of qualified staff for those acting on their mortgages, so CLC qualified staff allow us access to a broader range of work.

When it comes to professional indemnity renewals, the more qualified staff you have, the more confidence insurers will have in your business.
Certainly, for me, being CLC qualified has opened a lot of doors. I would recommend it to anyone working in conveyancing. I qualified when I was 23 – I was quite young but I’m glad I took the time then to get qualified as it gets harder to fit in study once you get older and have more commitments. It really pays off in the long term and I wouldn’t be in the position I am today if I hadn’t become CLC qualified.
Conveyancing can be a tough job, you have to work hard and it is not always plain sailing but if you like helping people it’s a rewarding career as well as being more accessible than many other areas of the law.
Having a CLC qualification will always send you to the top of the pile and mean you are more sought after when it comes to new jobs or promotions – it can give you a real advantage, demonstrating a level of expertise in conveyancing that will always be in demand.
