Under the Administration of Justice Act 1985, Licensed Conveyancers are authorised to offer conveyancing services to consumers. Conveyancing is the legal process involved in transferring buildings and/or land from one owner to another and dealing with the financial transactions.
A Licensed Conveyancer is a qualified specialist lawyer who concentrates solely on dealing with property or conveyancing and since November 2008, probate. As a result, Licensed Conveyancers operate under a bespoke regulatory framework, which is designed specifically to continually ensure consumer protection for users of services provided by Licensed Conveyancers.
Licensed Conveyancers are required to comply with the regulatory requirements, which include maintaining professional indemnity insurance and compliance with all the Rules of professional conduct including the timely disclosure of relevant information to clients such as cost estimates, financial arrangements with third parties and updates on key developments in the matter.
All the key parties involved in the home buying and selling process including financial institutions such as banks and lenders recognise Licensed Conveyancers.
All Licensed Conveyancers listed in the directory with telephone numbers are those who are eligible to offer conveyancing services direct to the public. Those without a telephone number are only able to offer conveyancing services through their employer.
