Consultation Paper 1
02/02/2010
Download pdf file (90 Kb)
I am pleased to attach/to advise you that the CLC has published two Consultation Papers on its website (www.clc-uk.org):

Licence and Practice Fees;
the CLC's Application to regulate Licensed Conveyancers in the exercise of Rights of Audience and Conduct of Litigation.
Licence and Practice Fees

This is a review of the rationale by which the CLC determines how the costs of regulation are paid for by the different parts of the profession. No decisions have been made. The main purpose of the paper is to stimulate discussion.

Application by the CLC to regulate Licensed Conveyancers in the exercise of Rights of Audience and Conduct of Litigation

The CLC is committed to making an application to become a Licensing Authority so that it can continue to regulate those Practices which are owned or managed by non-lawyers once Alternative Business Structures are introduced. As part of that process the CLC intends to apply to extend the scope of legal services which it currently regulates so it includes the exercise of Rights of Audience and the Conduct of Litigation. The Consultation Paper also suggests that the CLC should regulate licensed conveyancers in all legal services they provide, and that standalone probate or litigation licences could be issued without the applicant necessarily being required to have a conveyancing licence.

These are important issues for the profession. Please take the time to read the papers. The CLC looks forward to receiving your responses. All responses should be sent by email to consultations@clc-uk.org. The closing date for both Consultations is 31 March 2010.

Yours sincerely
