  2. Who are the CLC?

    The Council for Licensed Conveyancers, or CLC, is the regulatory body for licensed conveyancers in England and Wales. You can find out more about us.

  3. What is conveyancing?

    Conveyancing is the process of legally transferring title or ownership of a property or land from one person to another.

  4. Who or what is a licensed conveyancer?

    A licensed conveyancer is a specialist property lawyer qualified in all aspects of property law in England and Wales. A licensed conveyancer is also a Commissioner of Oaths and an increasing number are also licensed to offer probate services.

  5. How can I become a licensed conveyancer?

    There are several ways to qualify as a licensed conveyancer, including the CLC's distance learning programme. Find out more about studying with us—or if you are currently a solicitor, how to become regulated by us.

  6. Do you publish a newsletter?

  1. What does the CLC do?

    The CLC's purpose is to set entry standards and regulate the profession of licensed conveyancers effectively in order to:
    - secure adequate consumer protection
    - promote effective competition in the legal services market; and
    - provide choice for consumers.

  3. Can solicitors be regulated by the CLC?

    We welcome applications from solicitors and other lawyers who wish to become licensed conveyancers, or to set up practices regulated by the CLC. Click here for more information on regulation by the CLC.

  4. What is the CLC extranet?

    The CLC extranet is a section of the website which is accessible to CLC regulated practices, licensed conveyancers and students.  The extranet contains a range of online resources to benefit these stakeholders – such as applications, reference notes and forums. 

 

  1. What documentation should I send to CLC with my initial application for student registration?

    For the CLC to be able to process your student application, you need to send us the following documentation:

    (1) Two current character references, each signed by the referee (original only).

    (2) Verification of your current employment on headed notepaper, signed by your employer (original only).

    (3) Your birth certificate or passport or driving licence

    (certified copy).

    (4) Your examination certificates - if under 25 years of age (certified copy).

    (5) Your marriage certificate - if applicable (certified copy).

    (6) Your certificate of membership of a professional body or bodies - if applicable (certified copy).

    (7) Your college or degree certificate - if applicable (certified copy).

    Without this documentation, your application cannot be processed, so send it in as soon as possible.
